If you get a msg "iTunes requires a newer version of Apple moble device support, Please uninstall both apple mobile device support and itunes then install itunes...
Do the following..
1) Exit iTunes.
2) Stop the service via the control panel (or you can go to Start->Run and type "services.msc" without the quotes).
3) Delete C:\ProgramData\Apple\Installer Cache\Apple Mobile Device Support .
4) Right click and extract the iTunes64 installer to a folder.
5) Execute AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi
6) Start the Apple Mobile Device Support service back up
*Start - Run*
*C:\Path\To\iTunes64Setup.exe /extract C:\Any\Path*
You could use %TEMP% for any path if you want.

Or do this
1. Uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS).
2. Restart computer.
3. Repair iTunes v9 install. (This should reinstall latest AMDS.)
4. Plug in iPod.
If that didn't work for you then:
5. Repeat 1 & 2 if AMDS present.
6. Uninstall iTunes v9.
7. DO NOT REBOOT COMPUTER.
8. Reinstall iTunes v9. (No data should be lost.)
9. Plug in iPod
